At the beginning of the play, Oedipus learns the cause of the plague: the killer of Laius needed to be banished. He goes on to say, The gods curse all that disobey this charge! (KO, 33). Ironically, Oedipus is cursing himself because he is currently unaware of the truth. Later, the king vows, to fight for him now, as [he] would fight for [his] own father, and leave no way untried to bring to light the killer of Laius (KO, 33). Unknowingly, Oedipus vows to fight and find himself. It wasnt until later when Oedipus finds out the truth. As a way of trying to solve the problem, Oedipus calls Teiresias, a blind prophet. Oedipus begs him to say who the murderer is but Teiresias would not tell. The king then ridicules the prophet for being blind, and angrily, Teiresias says, Have you eyes and do not see your own damnation? (KO, 37). Teiresias tells Oedipus that he is blind to his own life and ironically, at the end of the play Oedipus truly ends up blind. Only then does he realize the truth of the blind prophets word. In conclusion, the use of tragic hero, tragic action, and tragic irony, together creates the perfect tragedy. King Oedipus is exceedingly important because throughout the play, Oedipus shows character development. At the beginning, Oedipus was very prideful and ignorant but becomes insightful and understands his life and how fate will always run its course, no matter how hard you try to fight it.

Working capital management involves a trade-off between two conflicting objectives liquidity and profitability. When a business holds too much working capital, it is said to be overcapitalized. But perhaps the reluctant lover roams now the asphalt streets, in a suit and tie, a briefcase hanging from one hand as though it is an extension of his body. And this woman, with her poems and novels and empty notebooks – she is here, waiting, being watched by a person who has seen enough of her to realize that she is waiting.  Another woman – more of a girl, really – is at another corner. But she smokes her cigarette with the ease of one who knows that someone will meet her. Soon she will be gone and this woman, this woman, would light another cigarette and turn another page of one the books she has brought. I see her cellphone buzz, vibrating on the surface of the table. She twitches, then snatches it. Her eyes run over the illuminated screen, taking in the message quickly. Then, her lip curls, and she tosses her cellphone back to the table. Has she been told that she has to wait longer? She returns to her book but her gaze is blanker now. This book she has been reading has quite possibly turned out to be a chore and all too soon, the words blur until they are white. There is too much of her coffee, and the crystal grains of sugar have refused to melt. The lemon cake crumbles. Even her cigarette offends her, and she puts it out, only half-consumed.  With her, this woman, her waiting – things pale and darken at the same time. Knowing these things are just distractions, something to pass the time that just seems to crawl slower and slower that it sometimes falls still: the coffee cannot be finished, the cigarette doesn’t burn, the page goes on and on and on. Something has cloaked her – is it the knowledge that all these are things she’d rather not be doing? Shouldn’t be doing in the first place? She must finish her coffee, and only crumbs should be left on her plate. The book, open on her lap, can be replaced. There are two other books in her bag, and she takes them out: poetry speaking of a requited waiting.  She must think now: all this talk about unrequited love, when poetry should be made about unrequited patience: waiting for the phone to vibrate, waiting for the crumbs to settle, waiting for the coffee mug to empty, waiting for the cigarette to turn into ash, waiting for the books to turn to the last page, waiting for the rain to stop, waiting for the clock to strike ten, waiting for someone to come through the door with the spaciest of smiles just for her. cantos V essays The portion of Canto V that I focused on revolves around two different stories that share similarities. The first story focuses on a man and his wife. The second is about two brothers. The first story begins with a man, Poicebot, who becomes lustful and leaves his wife in search of other women. While Poicebot is gone a knight from England seduces his wife. The knight leaves her after eight months and she too decides to leave her house. Poicebot, coming from Spain and still searching for other women goes into a brothel. The first woman presented to him was his wife. The second story is about two brothers. In the book it starts with the line And Pieire won the singing, Pieire de Maensac, This is describing what happened with Pieire de Maensac and his brother Austors de Maensac. Both men were troubadours. They tossed a coin to see who would get the castle and who would continue being a troubadour. Austors got the castle, therefore Pieire was still a troubadour. Pieire fell in love with Tyndarida, the wife of a man named Bernart de Tierci. Tyndarida left de Tierci and stayed with Pieire. Ezra Pound is juxtaposing the two stories. Hes trying to display the opposing attitudes of Poicebot and Pieire towards things like sex and property. Poicebot, whose only concern is his property and sex, ends up losing his wife and his property. In contrast to Poicebot is Pieire. Pieire is a troubadour that is careless of property and in the end keeps the woman that he loves. ...
